Les Claypool – Master of Puppets

In other reality Metallica could sound like this. Hehe… In 1986 Les Claypool (thanks God) was too good for them.

The best straps ever

If you are looking for great looking durable and comfortable strap for your beauty – check Italia Leather Straps. This is the best straps ever. I read a lot of positive reviews and bought one on eBay – the same seller, but much more cheaper. If you can show me strap that beat this one in quality and comfort and it will cost you $30 – tell me – I’ll take two. :)
Here is some advices:

  • Again, use eBay unless there are no such design you want – you can save extra $10 or $20
  • 4″ is more than enough ever if you are 6’8″ and 300lb guy (like me). I have 5″ wide strap and it is ok, but I think 4″ version could be better.
  • order “long” one unless you are short and your bass is above your belt. Spend some time with your old strap or piece of rope and think twice about strap’s length. For me “standard” is enough, but I cannot make it longer ever if I would.
  • Be patient and wait – usually it takes 4-6 weeks to get this piece of art

Yes, and prepare for the smell of fresh premium leather when you open your package :)

Tony Franklin – Metal fretless

Slapping, overdrive and fretless … but he rocks! Bass guitar is very young instrument and every experiment, every technique counts. His sound inspires me more to buy a fretless than “classic” stuff.

Longbow bass

Do you want to own original 2-string fretless for only $295 – check LongBow Bass. It looks like stick with two strings, but solid piece of nice wood cannot sounds bad. :) Detailed specifications you can find on manufacturer’s site. I didn’t find neither video of LongBow player nor good review of it. I remember that Brian Richey from “Violent Femmes” owns one of it. To be honest – it looks like bass player toy :)

J.S.Bach – Menuet in G minor

Today I spent some time transcribing this piece of classics for two basses. Well, fingerings may be not perfect and I’m feel myself not too cool bass player to play this on one bass yet but both parts are easy enough to learn and fun to play.
Enjoy. Any comments are welcome.

Tony Franklin – Fretless and pick

Amazing sound – like a cello, especially at the start of video. There are many opinions about picking fretless, but I like it.

One more perfect video of Manring’s genius.
