It’s when a player can place his notes precisely on the beat or subdivision of the beat.
In some cases if the rest of the band is playing behind on a beat (such as a delayed two) the player must match the purposeful inaccuracies of the rest of the band to obtain the proper feel. If you do any hard drive recording you can see where everybody’s notes are lining up. You can even cheat by sliding your notes into the grove by editing them.
